Cirrus Aircraft 70545-001 Door Strut Catcher/Diverter Kit — G2 Type 2, SB2X-52-08
A cabin door gas strut can come off the ball fitting on the fuselage, travel forward under the upholstery into the control yoke mechanism and interfere with yoke movement, potentially reducing roll authority in flight. The rod end that lets go is often damaged during earlier removal and installation.
Cirrus classes SB2X-52-08 as mandatory, to be accomplished at the next scheduled maintenance or annual inspection, whichever comes first.
What the kit does: Replaces the gas strut rod ends on both cabin doors and adds a redesigned catcher/diverter at each gas strut forward attach bracket, with the safety clips to retain them.
Why it works. The new rod ends remove the damaged parts that let go in the first place. The catcher/diverter sits at the forward bracket so a strut that does come off is captured and steered away from the control yoke rather than into it.
Four kits cover this bulletin. Which one an aircraft needs depends on serial number and on whether the gas strut forward attach bracket is welded or machined — that has to be checked on the aircraft. Refer to SB2X-52-08 before ordering.
