Description
Cirrus Aircraft 70255-002 Flap Actuator Modification Kit — SB2X-27-16 Group B
If the 0% flap actuator proximity sensor fails and the actuator runs past the 0% point, the actuator rod end can bend; deploying full flap on a bent rod end can over-center the linkage and, if the rod end then fails, cause an asymmetric flap condition. A related condition lets the actuator bottom out at full extension and loosen the end fitting, over-stowing the flaps.
Cirrus classes SB2X-27-16 as mandatory or recommended depending on serial number and whether the original release of the bulletin was complied with, to be accomplished at the next scheduled maintenance, annual inspection, or within 12 calendar months, whichever occurs first.
What the kit does: Installs a collar on the flap actuator to stop it over-retracting, and replaces the actuator rod end and end fitting with the current designs, the end fitting installed with a specified jam nut torque.
Why it works. The collar and the redesigned rod end and end fitting together reduce actuator travel if the proximity sensor fails, and the longer, properly torqued end fitting prevents the actuator from bottoming out.
Note: Group B is for SR20 serials 1005 thru 2029 and SR22 serials 0002 thru 3459 that have not complied with the original release of SB2X-27-16. Aircraft that have already complied, and later serials, use the Group A kit, 70255-001. Refer to SB2X-27-16 to confirm the right kit.
Reference only — not a maintenance authority. The part numbers, effectivity and service bulletin references shown above are published as an aid to our customers and may not reflect current Cirrus data. They must not be used as the basis for installation. Mechanics must obtain and use their own current Cirrus Illustrated Parts Catalog and the current revision of any service bulletin, and must verify applicability against the aircraft serial number, service bulletin compliance and any installed STCs, before ordering or installing any part.
